Thailand has well earned the reputation as being the sex capital of the world. Women
Thai women are generally very petite, weighing between 85 and 105 pounds. In Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Phuket, the price varies between $5 and $60, again depending on where you go and how professional the girl is. Legal
Although prostitution is technically illegal, the local police are corrupt and the bars and brothel owners pay them off to turn the other way. Prostitution is a protected industry and tourists are expected and praised for taking bar girls back to their hotel for sex. As long as one stays away from underage girls (under 18),  does not force himself upon any girl, and of course, compensates the girl for her service, one will never have any problems with the police concerning sex in Thailand. There are some laws to know when visiting Thailand is that the Thai Government prohibits the import of illegal narcotics (including hemp, opium, cocaine, morphine and heroin) and obscene literature, pictures or articles. Smuggling of hard drugs such as heroin may be punishable by death. Import of firearms and ammunition must be registered in advance with the Police Department or local Registration Office. Importation of certain species of fruits, vegetables and plants is prohibited.

As tolerant as by far and large Thai people are, Thai public realizing that it's all but 'easy money', yet disapproves of them, as society norms are based on high regard for the family values, especially between parents and children. Albeit that fact, Thais are rather easy going of an ancient habit, upon which the vigour men, who are able to afford, possess what is called a second informal wife, 'mia noi' in Thai. Not only a social status of the Thai men and women is unequal de-jure, but the society is also deeply fractioned and people are measured by the rich or poor, ones who do have and those that have not. Although, laziness and lack of work ethics playing its sadly part, deprivation is the major reason for young Thai girls to fetch up as the bar babes. Poverty and lack of education is the root cause that forces needy Thai girls from upcountry into a life of prostitution.

Government officials, to say the least, opt for a closed-eye approach in regard to the Tough Ladies, being aware of economic contributions the tourist industry brings about, and following the Golden Rule: "He, who has the gold, makes the rules."
A magnitude of Tough Ladies is quite pitiable for the Thai politicians, often called here Politico, themselves infamous for a playboy behavior. Unable to deal with socio-economic roots of this massive social illness, their rhetoric is visibly regretful, especially, whenever the issue gets out of their hands into the spotlight of the global media reaching an international attention.

The fact of the matter is that mainly in the North and northeastern provinces, poor families with as many as 10–12 or more children, are strained to "sell" some of their children in order to feed, educate and support the rest. Some even deem to believe that these children would have a better life away from the deprived family. A lot of abused girls upon found pregnant, are forced to drop out of school. Most such girls are bumped into working in bars as there is nothing better for them to do. With the money they earn, these girls normally support their needy upcountry families, who take care of un-parented babies while the bar ladies are at work.

Admittedly or not, many more sexy girls are taking on the same path simply because it is much more profitable.
